Indonesian Nail Art Community proudly presents: #indonesianbatiknails tutorial

So, because Indonesian Nail Art Community is making Batik Nails for International Batik Day, which falls on October 2nd every year, I decided to make a tutorial for the spesific theme we have chosen: Mega Mendung Batik Nails!

You can read a short history of Mega Mendung Batik here.

For this look, all you need is:
  • Base coat
  • Base color (what I use here is Innisfree Eco Nail Color 69)
  • an acrylic paint with the color of your choice
  • white acrylic paint
  • top coat
  • small brush
Untuk penampilan ini, yang kamu butuhkan adalah:
  • Base coat
  • cat akrilik berwarna putih
  • top coat
  • kuas kecil
This is the brush that I use, Cotman 0000

1.  Prepare a palette, and start mixing your 2 acrylic paint and a little bit of water until you have 4 different colors like below: (Note that you don't have to do 4 colors, if you want to have 6 or 7 colors, it's up to you :D)

2. Paint your nails with your base coat and base color.

2. Pakailah base coat dan warna dasarmu.

3. Using the white acrylic paint, start tracing the pattern that you want to make. It's okay if it's messy.

4. Using the lightest color in the mix, paint the inside of the pattern you've made in step 3.

5. Do step 4, this time with a darker shade. Keep repeating the steps until you've used your darkest shade. Please note that it doesn't have to be exactly the same width, even though it would look neater if it is.

6. Repeat again step 3-5 so it looks like something like this:

7.  Retrace the white lines so that it would look bolder.

7. Tebalkan lagi garis putih sehingga coraknya terlihat lebih tegas.

8. Fix the inside of the pattern if you're still unsatisfied with the result.

9. Put on the topcoat and you're done! You've just made batik nails!

9. Pakaikan topcoat dan selesai! Kamu baru saja membuat batik nail art!

Special notes/tips:

  •  Use a darker base color so that the white lines and the pattern would pop.
  • Be creative with the color combinations, use a grey base with orange pattern, maroon base with yellow pattern, the possibility is endless!
  • I used acrylic pattern instead of nail polish, because nail polish dries faster than acrylic paint and acrylic paint is easier to 'steer' using a small brush.
  • Don't mix too much water with your acrylic paint, I only mix a little bit because acrylic paint without mixing it with water can be to thick and hard to paint using a small brush.
  • I usually trace the pattern back and forth until it looks good to me. Note that too much layer of acrylic can make it dry longer.
  • Be patient. Wait 10-15 minutes before putting on the topcoat or the topcoat would ruin and make the acrylic paint run.
  • If you don't have a steady hand, put your arm on the side of your worktable so that it wouldn't shake much.

Catatan khusus/tips:

The possibility is endless!

OPI Alcatraz...Rocks Swatch and Review

Hi again everyone! Today I have another stunning textured polish, this one from OPI's F/W 2013 line, San Fransisco. Yes, it is the uber gorgeous Alcatraz... Rocks.

For these swatches I used 2 coats of OPI Alcatraz Rocks over a peel-off basecoat.
See that sparkle? I fell in love at the first swatch <3.

I tried using Alcatraz...Rocks over a normal base coat, and upon removal, I found that even after with foil technique, there were still traces of gold /champagne sparkle on my nails. Nothing a swipe of cotton pad soaked with acetone couldn't fix, though.

And with top coat, just look at that holographic sparkle!

A macro shot of my thumb. You can see the golds/champagne particles I mentioned earlier.

I bought this polish from Mrs. Lilis, for IDR95.000,-
What do you think? Are you digging the textured polish trend? I absolutely love shimmer textures!

I used a base color of my very own franken, Don't Bamboo Me, topped with OPI Goldenye sparsely applied.
On my ring finger is BK Glow in the Dark which I bought here, topped with Gemstones from Nail Art House. All of them are topped with Etude House Matte Real Nail Top Coat.

Pink and Purple Roses Floral NOTD

Another sunny day here in Jakarta, which makes me want to cuddle with my pillows under my blanket with my AC blasting cold wind :p
But instead, I did more nail art, I don't know why I'm so in the mood right now :p

Anyway, I don't know if these type of floral method has been created before or not, so I can't take credit for it ;)

Base color is A'Pieu Glow Nail Touch SYG01, and for the roses I used Revlon Fuchsia Fever, Etude House NPP501, and The Skin Food BW704, and a dot of OPI Goldeneye in the middle of the rose :) The leaves are made with China Glaze Holly Day and a franken I made called Don't Bamboo Me.

eek! Forgot to clean the roses :( and I hate it when topcoat ruins my nail art :(

I really like how abstract the flowers look, don't you? ;)

Zoya Pixiedust Carter Swatch and Review

Hey guys! I'm starting to dedicate more time for this blog because I actually enjoy blogging a lot! ;)
Today I have my newest obsession, which is textured polish. Not just any textured polish, but the special PixieDust that everyone talks about :D

From Zoya's newest Fall/Winter line, I bought one, which is Carter, a gorgeous royal purple with fuchsia glitters. one word: AMAZING!!

For these swatches I used 2 coats of Zoya Carter over The Face Shop's Peel Off Basecoat :)
See dat texture? GORGEOUSSS!!

Zoya itself is a 5-free brand, making it safe for pregnant ladies to use :)

with topcoat

Formula-wise, I find myself loving the brush and the formula is pretty good, not so goopy like OPI's Mariah Carey minis.

sorry it's blurry :(
I bought these from Mrs. Lilis, if you want to contact her you can message me or just comment below :)
I'm so sad because with dollar rates rising up, the prices on nail polish also got an additional tax price. Zoyas on Mrs. Lilis's shop is usually 90.000, but because of the dollar rates, I had to pay 95.000 + shipping fee :(

Anyway, do you have any Zoya PixieDust? Do you like it? Comment below ;)

The Face Shop Colored Paper Nails CMX321, CMX324, and CMX325 Swatch and Review

Hi guys! Today from the vault I bring you my new favourite glitters from another Korean Brand, the Face Shop.
So, The Face Shop just recently came out with 6 new shades of glitter for a collection called Colored Paper Nails. Curious name, don't you think? I don't know whether they exactly are made from some sort of paper or any other ingredient, but I'm sure I love how flat they lay on my nails! ;)

Out of the whole 6, I bought only 3, which are: CMX321, CMX324, and CMX325.

*All swatches are with basecoat and topcoat*

 First up, CMX321.
CMX321 is a mix of matte green, white, pink hex glitter with some small red and small square white glitters on a clear base.
Now, the glitters look a lot like Etude House's Pink Prism, just without the small or white glitters.

For these swatches, I used 2 coats of CMX321 over Nars x Pierre Hardy Ethno Run Left.

For application, I have no trouble at all, no fishing for the glitters at all but I need to place the glitters because it keeps huddling up at the end of my nails.
Didn't know what happened, but as you can see in the photo below, it kinda bubbles :(
Drying time is okay, although it dries to a not-so-shiny surface (if you get what I mean)
so sad that it has bubbles :(

Next up is CMX324. Now, I'm a big fan of white and black glitters, and I knew I had to get these ones the moment I saw the official announcement on the website!

CMX324 is a mix of black and white glitter in various size and shapes, including black matte diamond glitters, that needs some fishing on application. The rest of the glitter floats smoothly on top of my nails.

For these photos I used 2 coats of CMX324 over Beauty Buffet B22.

And last but not least, CMX325. I didn't really like it on bottle, but after I put it on, I'm hooked!

CMX325 is a mix of of red, fuchsia, orange, blue, and pale blue hex small glitters with some pale blue square and silver diamonds thrown in on a clear base.

For application, I have no trouble, but for the diamond glitters. Some fishings were needed.
For these swatches I used 2 coats of CMX325 over black because I don't know what else to layer it with.

Formula wise, they're pretty awesome, not as thick as Etude House's Dear My Party Nails, but still thicker than OPI or China Glaze's.

All in all, I really love this collection. If I have some spare money, maybe I'd complete the collection one day ;)

I bought these nail polishes from my favorite online shop, Warxisister OS. They cost 48.000 IDR per bottle, which is about 4.27 USD. Dollar rates are really high in Indonesia right now, every imported goods are getting pricey and more pricey :( Nail polishes got a raise from 3000 IDR to 15000 IDR :'(

SO, what do you think? Would you buy this nail polish collection?

Pastel Rainbow Stripes NOTD

Hi everyone!
TOday I'm back again with a nail art. It's been a few weeks since had the energy and spirit to do any nail art, and it feels so good! I didn't realize that nail art has been one of those moment in my life when I have all the time for myself without having to remember how miserable or alone I am :)

Anyway, this nail art is inspire by nail28tsenwei on Instagram. Of course, mine still has a lot to improve, my lines are still pretty messy :(

 Colors used:
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener for basecoat
Etude House Look at My Cotton Candy Nails CPP501 (purple)
Etude House Color Pop Nails CGR705 (blue)
OPI Gargantuan Green Grape (green)
Etude House Look at My Cotton Candy Nails CBE101 (yellow)
Etude House Look at My Cotton Candy NailsCOR202 (orange)
Sally Hansen Complete Manicure in I Pink I Can (pink)
Revlon Super Top Speed for topcoat.

I handpainted the stripes using my striper brush, painstakingly one by one ;)

I painted both of my hands because I have a party to attend today! :D
I really like how this looks, even though the lines were supposed to be of same width, but on my nails it looks like they're descending from wide to narrow :p
Because of that, only some nails get the pink stripes hehehe.

So, what do you think? Leave comment below :)

Etude House Dear My Party Nails PBL601 Swatch and Review

Hey guys! I'm finally back again with more nail polish review for you :)
Today I have from my stash, Etude House Dear My Party Nails PBL601.

PBL601 is a greyish-light blue base with multicolor base, which I think looks a lot like China Glaze's It's a Trap-eze from the Cirque du Soleil line, right?

For this swatches I used 2 coats of PBL601 over a white nail polish.
It can be worn on its own, I usually use 3 coats on its own (click here to see it on its own), but after I saw JennySantio's swatches of The Face Shop Yoghurt Nails, I wanted to try out how this polish looks under an opaque base.
I used a layer of topcoat to smooth the surface :)

Formula wise, the polish is a bit thick, but it's still manageable. It looks so preeetttyyyy!
My friend wanted to buy this one also, but it's sold out everywhere! I hope there will be more in stock for my friend next month :)

I pre-ordered this polish from Zatura Scg months ago. The service is not really good, because they handle a lot of pre order stuff, and I'm just one of many. Still, I don't recommend Pre-ordering stuff from them if you're not patient.

SO, what do you think? Do you like creamy based glitter nail polish? :)

Beauty Buffet B22, S03, S08 Review and Swatches

Hello again everyone! Sorry I've been MIA these past few weeks, I went to Bali for my summer vacation!
But now that I'm back, I'll show you my newest addition to my ever-growing collection of nail polish:
Beauty Buffet Nail Enamel!

Beauty Buffet itself is a Thai cosmetics brand. When I passed the booth in MBK Mall in Bangkok when I attended a meeting near there, I saw the neon yellow and I know I have to get it. Apparently, the store was having a promo, for a buy 3 for approximately 3$! I regretted not buying more :(

Beauty Buffet B22 in direct sunlight
Beauty Buffet B22 in shades
First up, B22. B22 is a blue based grey. For these swatches I used 3 coats. It's a bit on the thick side, but after 3 coats it's pretty self leveling, which is a great thing! I bought this one because I don't have any grey polish lol :p

Beauty Buffet S08 in direct sunlight
Beauty Buffet S08 in shades.
Next is S08. it's such a pretty light blue that reminds me of sunny blue sky!
For these I used 2 coats. On the bottle it shows a bit of mint green, but after it dries on my nails it looks more blue. LOVELOVELOVE!

Beauty Buffet S03 in shades.
Beauty Buffet S03 in direct sunlight
Okay, now I know how everyone seems to complain about how hard it is to capture neon colors. Seriously, I think my camera hates me hahahaha!
Anyway, I've never been interested in neon colors, but that was before I met Karina, who loves yellows, greens, and basically any neon color except pink :p

For these, I used 2 coats of S03 over a white base to make the color POP even more.

So, do you know about Beauty Buffet? Have you ever heard of the brand?

Love,
Sovianaty.
